Competitive Grants – General Information

Thank you for your interest in the Catholic Community Foundation’s Competitive Grants Program. Since inception, the Foundation has funded competitive grants totaling over $3,707,300 to support important charitable work in Arizona. Each year numerous applications are received requesting funds to assist with tuition for Catholic education, expansion of pastoral ministries within the Diocese of Phoenix, and/or promotion of the Catholic ministry through various forms of media. Led by the Catholic Community Foundation’s Board of Directors, composed of clergy and laity, the volunteer Grants Committee carefully reviews each application and attempts to award funds in areas where the greatest need can be met in the most efficient way possible.

The Catholic Community Foundation offers grants in three categories:

WHO CAN APPLY:

Catholic schools and parishes within the Diocese of Phoenix or any Catholic non-profit organization registered in the state of Arizona may apply.

PROCESS:

The application and evaluation process for these grants is as follows:

September-October 2008 The Foundation calls for applications that meet its funding criteria – Applicants may begin applying
November 15, 2008 Deadline to submit completed grant applications
December 2008 Completed applications are reviewed and experienced volunteers in each category make recommendations
January/February 2009 Grants Committee reviews all completed applications and recommendations, and submits their report to the Foundation’s Board of Directors
March 2009 Grant recipients are announced and applicants are notified of results
October 2009 Grant checks are presented to recipients at Annual Grants Luncheon

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Applicant must be a registered 501 (C)(3) charity in Arizona.
  2. Applicants must provide a current list of the organization’s Board of Directors (or management) with their applications.
  3. Grant recipients or an agency representative must be present at the Annual Grants Luncheon in October in order to receive the grant.
  4. Grant recipients are required to send an interim report to the Catholic Community Foundation on how the grant has been of benefit to their organization and how the funds are being allocated.
  5. Grant recipients must submit a letter of acknowledgement for grant funds received to the Catholic Community Foundation to be shared with its Board of Directors, Grants Committee, and others.
  6. Grant recipients must consent to signing a photo/video release.

PLEASE NOTE FOR ALL GRANTS:

  • Due to the finite amount of grant monies available, not all proposals can be funded.
  • Funding in the past does not guarantee continued funding.
  • Lack of funding in the past does not indicate that funding will not be possible in this or future years.

We invite you to view the 2006 video and read about a few of the Foundation’s grant recipients.
