Students with disabilities in Phoenix Catholic schools have limited or no access to school staff and resources to assist them in succeeding academically. This Catholic Leadership Circle grant funded the creation of teacher tool kits and training for school teachers and staff so that the schools may have a sustainable and community-supported model for long-term inclusion of disabled students. These efforts directly result in more families having the ability to provide their children a faith-based education.
Maggie’s Place is a community that provides houses of hospitality for pregnant and parenting women in need who are living in the greater Phoenix area. Their homes are the heart of their programs and the Catholic Leadership Circle answered their desperate need for various repairs, supplies and home improvements (one-time costs) such as appliances, new carpet, new drywall, paint, and other home supplies.
Visit the Maggie’s Place website.
St. Joseph the Worker transforms the lives of struggling job-seekers as they get back to work in quality jobs. The Catholic Leadership Circle was inspired to support the Employment Heals program to provide one-on-one professional job development guidance, computer and Internet access, professional clothing, resume development, job leads, interview practice, certification fees, transportation, uniforms, basic tools, and safety equipment.
Our world is becoming digitized and our students and their families cannot be left behind because of their financial status. One way we can better prepare them for their future is by using the best technology available for their instruction and use. A successful campaign to increase student enrollment at the school has raised the need for technology upgrades, better connectivity, and updated hardware and software. This Catholic Leadership Circle grant funded a new network security router to ensure students' internet safety, 34 computers and 80 iPads which are shared by the entire school.
Four religious sisters serve at St. Anthony's Catholic Church and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Phoenix, dedicating their efforts to providing faith education for both communities. The faith formation program has 300 students at Immaculate Heart of Mary, 180 at St. Anthony’s and 90 adults. In addition, the sister's living quarters were connected directly to the parish office with no separation for privacy. The Catholic Leadership Circle came to sisters' and the parishes' aid by providing this grant to implement audio/visual technology for religious education, to install an appropriate division for their personal residence, and to complete a significant roof repair.

Grant Title: The Way of St. James Documentary
Eleven young men from St. Anne's parish set out to walk over 500 miles for love of Jesus Christ. They encountered Jesus' suffering so that they could effectively share His message. They walked along the northern coast of Spain to Santiago de Compostela on the ancient Catholic pilgrimage, The Way of St. James. This grant contributed to the production of a documentary film that is now an evangelization tool.
Grant Title: Student Vision Screening
To purchase two Titmus V2 Vision Screeners. These machines allow for a more accurate and comprehensive vision testing, including measuring eye muscle balance, depth perception, binocular vision and color perception. Using these devices, screeners can identify children that have vision issues, as well as potentially identify students who may have more serious eye conditions. These children are referred to an optometrist or optomologist for a comprehensive eye exam. Our Lady of Mount Carmel also makes these machines available to other diocesan Catholic schools.
